Evoker[]
- Considered the brutes of the magical world, Evokers directly channel massive amounts of raw power at their enemies.
- The Evoker has a spark and is connected through that to the divine from which their power flows
- Evokers have a focus which acts as their link or connection to magic, this focus can manifest different ways
- Focus manifestations acting as 'connections to magic' for Evokers have included Staffs, Swords and Amulets so far in game. Presumably there is a great variety however.
- If one's focus acting as your 'connection to magic' is broken or destroyed, the magic pours in unregulated "burning a hole in your soul", the influx of magic will overrun the limits of the human body relatively quickly and kill the evoker.
Enchanter[]
- The Enchanter has a spark and is connected through that to the divine from which their power flows
- Enchanters have a focus which acts as their link or connection to magic, this focus can manifest different ways
- The Enchanter has much less raw power than an Evoker and tends to utilize glyphs, sigals, and preparation in advance to make up for the power difference.
Healer[]
- The Healer has a spark and is connected through that to the divine from which their power flows
- Healers have a focus which acts as their link or connection to magic, this focus can manifest different ways
- The Healer has much less raw power than even an Enchanter. This is actually beneficial as a strong spark makes healing (which is a delicate art) much more difficult.
Sorceress[]
Sorcery seems related to chance and probability. There's also the fact that the Voices seem to whisper in [Sorcerer's] ears, telling them [things] they're not supposed to know.
- Sorcery is the youngest branch of magic and the rarest. It only appeared in the last 2000 years or so.
- Sorcery is bloodline based but is not reliable and can skip generations and then reappear.
- The Sorcerer/Sorceress may or may not have a spark. The Spark and Sorcery bloodlines are independent and separate.
- Sorcery and sparks are both so rare that it seems like you can only be one or the other, however Owyn, notably, is both.
- Sorcerers 'listen to the voices' which have their own agenda, and can sometimes help obtaining what the sorcerer 'needs'
- There are very rare Sorcerers (Jannice) that are so in tune with the voices that "the world more or less bends to [their] desires, at least in small ways." This is referred to by the Horned God and Ailidh and the gate, as "Blessed by the Voices"
Seers[]
- Seer ability comes from the same source as Sorcery (dp)
- It could be considered a different line of Sorcery (dp)
- The primary differences between Sorcerer and Seers are that
- Seers are not beholden to the voices (dp)
- Seers are Observers only, they cannot change things as Sorcerers can. (dp)
- Seers are not tied to the bloodlines of the Mother's Chosen (dp)
- No Seer with a spark has been seen in game
- Seers may predate Sorcery (dp)
Ceremonial magician[]
- Ceremonial Magic does not require a spark and is a form of Normie.
- Ceremonial Magic requires no special capabilities and can be done by any human.
- The ceremonial magician uses summoning circles to contain and summon denizens of elsewhere.
- Summoning Circles
- The summoning circle provides a link between the magician and the creature summoned which can be used to transfer power.
- It also (and very importantly) contains the creature so it can't get out and kill the ceremonial magician...usually.
- The circle blocks magic in both directions. At one point Katie and Owyn threaten to nuke a creature inside a circle scaring it away, however this would not have actually worked.
- The ceremonial magician then attempts to convince the creature to transfer bits of power to the magician. Typically this is managed by ceremonial magicians by dancing and performing for the creatures.
- The scraps of power add up and allow for the magicians to maintain their youth and otherwise perform magic.
- The MC refers to Ceremonial Magicians as 'trans-dimensional cam-whores' based on their typical approach of performing titillating shows in exchange for scraps of power.
- No male ceremonial magician has been seen in game, but in principle they could also be male and service different clientele.
- In game it is discovered that the power donor inside the circle can also be a human Evoker
- It is unknown if an Enchanter could also feed a ceremonial magician via a circle. Droid has stated a healer would not have enough power.
- It is noted in game by Molly that human magic 'tastes' much much better than what is provided by demons.
Esotheric Mage[]
(Hedge Mages) Esotheric mages have 'quirks' which they may not even control and do not have a spark. As such they could potentially become chosen. Diana linked esotheric magic with sorcery referring to the relationship of her quirk to sorcerers as I dabble, they serve Esotheric mages are a form of Normie.
Known Quirks
The bookseller, Diana, Proprietress of the Rambling Rascal bookstore, is an esotheric mage and her quirk is finding the right books for their owners.
Jenny, the barista at Starcucks is confirmed to have a quirk, however details have not been disclosed.
Other examples are Prophecy, Precognition, limited knowledge transfers.
Normie[]
Normal Everyday humans. No spark. No inherent magical abilities.
Normal humans can access magic through Ceremonial Magic, using mana gems filled by others, and in some cases may even have minor magical quirks (Hedge Mages)
Glyphs[]
Incised upon a surface in relief.
Both the shape of a glyph and the width of the geometry used in drawing it are important for power drain and capacity.
Sigils[]
Drawn upon a surface (vs. carved into it). Otherwise generally similar to a glyph.
